New MRI dye aims to sharpen prostate cancer detection
NCT ID NCT06226129
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests a new contrast agent called Gadopiclenol (Elucirem) for MRI scans of the prostate. The goal is to see if it makes aggressive prostate cancers stand out more clearly, helping doctors decide who needs a biopsy. About 150 men scheduled for a prostate MRI will receive this agent, and radiologists will rate the image quality. The study is currently recruiting.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Gadopiclenol (a contrast agent for MRI)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to more accurate MRI scans for prostate cancer, helping doctors better identify aggressive tumors and reduce unnecessary biopsies.
What could go wrong
This is a Phase 4 study focused on imaging quality, not treatment. The new agent may not significantly improve detection over existing contrast agents, and gadolinium-based agents carry a small risk of allergic reactions or kidney-related side effects.
