Exercise program may boost natural pain relief in chronic back pain sufferers

NCT ID NCT07347457

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study looks at whether a 4-week functional rehabilitation program, focused on supervised exercise, can improve exercise-induced hypoalgesia — the natural pain relief that happens after physical activity — in people with chronic low back pain. Researchers will measure pain thresholds before and after exercise in 51 participants enrolled in the program. The goal is to see if regular exercise training can make exercise more effective at reducing pain, which could help people stay active.

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a way to make exercise more effective at reducing pain in people with chronic low back pain.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early exploratory study with only 51 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. It also does not test a new drug or treatment, just a program already in use.
