NCT ID NCT07091539
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether giving $80 per month in fruit and vegetable vouchers to families with food insecurity can improve liver health in children with MASLD (fatty liver disease). The study will enroll 48 children aged 6-17 who are already receiving care at UCSF clinics. Researchers will track how often vouchers are used and measure changes in diet, liver inflammation, and other health factors over six months.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
fruit and vegetable vouchers
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that providing vouchers for fruits and vegetables helps improve liver health in children with MASLD and food insecurity.
What could go wrong
This is a small pilot study with only 48 participants and no control group, so results may not be conclusive. It also relies on families actually using the vouchers.
