Gut bacteria linked to fructose belly pain in IBS – new study
NCT ID NCT07337707
First seen Jan 17, 2026 · Last updated May 09, 2026 · Updated 13 times
Summary
This study looks at why some people with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) feel pain after eating fructose (a sugar found in fruit). Researchers think gut bacteria and a hormone called cholecystokinin may be involved. 60 adults with IBS will provide stool samples, food diaries, and take a simple urine test to measure gut leaks. No treatment is given – the goal is to better understand the link between fructose, bacteria, and pain.
