Can a smart patch help teens tame type 2 diabetes?

NCT ID NCT06089070

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study looks at whether teenagers with type 2 diabetes will wear and use a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) — a small sensor that tracks blood sugar levels. Twenty participants will use the FreeStyle Libre CGM for 6 months, while 10 others serve as a comparison group. The main goal is to see if the device is acceptable and helpful for managing their diabetes day-to-day.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

FreeStyle Libre continuous glucose monitor (CGM) device

What this could lead to

If successful, this could show that CGM devices are practical and helpful for managing type 2 diabetes in teenagers.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early feasibility study with only 20 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. It focuses on whether teens will use the device, not on proving it improves health outcomes.
