Forest walks and aromatherapy tested as Muscle-Building therapy for seniors

NCT ID NCT07632417

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether an 8-week forest therapy program—combining walking, resistance band exercises, and sensory activities like aromatherapy—can improve muscle strength and well-being in older women with sarcopenia. Thirty-six women aged 55 and older will participate in 16 sessions at a forest healing base. Researchers will measure handgrip strength, physical performance, and quality of life before, after, and at a 2-month follow-up.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Forest therapy program (forest walking, resistance bands, aromatherapy, deep breathing)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a simple, nature-based way to help older women with sarcopenia improve muscle strength and quality of life without drugs.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-phase study with only 36 participants, all women, so results may not apply broadly. The program requires commitment and may not work for everyone.
