Free food for families: stanford tests whether grocery deliveries curb baby obesity
NCT ID NCT06051591
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a program that delivers free groceries twice a month to food-insecure families with infants (ages 6 to 18 months) is practical and well-liked. All families also get nutrition education. The goal is to see if the program can be done successfully, not yet to prove it reduces obesity. Eighty families are being recruited from Stanford pediatric clinics.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Food FARMacia Program (twice monthly grocery delivery) and self-directed meal preparation support
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that providing healthy groceries and nutrition guidance to food-insecure families is a practical way to help prevent childhood obesity.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early feasibility study with only 80 families, so it won't prove the program actually reduces obesity—just that it can be done. Results may not apply to other settings.
