Sound waves may stop stubborn seizures in ICU patients

NCT ID NCT05784805

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether a gentle, non-invasive ultrasound treatment can reduce or stop seizure activity in people with a severe type of ongoing seizure called status epilepticus that hasn't improved with standard medications. Ten participants in the ICU will receive a 10-minute focused ultrasound session aimed at key brain areas. The goal is to see if this approach can safely calm brain activity and offer a new option for hard-to-treat seizures.
