New ultrasound treatment aims to zap prostate cancer, spare side effects
NCT ID NCT03568188
Summary
This study tested a focused ultrasound treatment (HIFU) for men with intermediate-risk prostate cancer that is confined to one area. The goal was to see if precisely destroying only the cancerous part of the prostate could effectively control the disease while causing fewer side effects, like incontinence or erectile dysfunction, compared to standard whole-gland surgery or radiation. Researchers followed 174 patients to measure cancer control and quality of life over several years.
