New combo therapy aims to treat prostate cancer with fewer side effects

NCT ID NCT05790213

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This phase 2 trial is testing whether combining focal prostate ablation (a surgery that destroys only the cancerous part of the prostate) with a short course of hormone therapy can effectively treat intermediate-risk prostate cancer. The study will enroll 57 participants and measure how well the treatment controls cancer, as well as its impact on quality of life and side effects. The goal is to find a less invasive option that preserves healthy tissue and reduces long-term complications.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Androgen deprivation therapy (hormone therapy) and focal prostate ablation (surgery to destroy part of the prostate)

What this could lead to

If successful, this combination could offer a less invasive treatment option for intermediate-risk prostate cancer, potentially reducing side effects compared to whole-gland treatments.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-phase trial with only 57 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The treatment may not fully eliminate the cancer, and side effects from hormone therapy or the procedure are possible.
