First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study will test 200 adults who are about to start blood thinners for heart conditions. Each person will provide a stool sample before starting the medication and again three months later. The goal is to see if the fecal immunochemical test (FIT) can detect hidden gastrointestinal bleeding early, which could help doctors take action sooner.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Fecal Immunochemical Test (FIT)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could show that FIT is a useful tool for early detection of gastrointestinal bleeding in patients on blood thinners.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early observational study with only 200 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The test may not catch all bleeding cases.
