NCT ID NCT05404230
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether taking fish oil supplements can prevent nerve damage in the hands and feet caused by oxaliplatin chemotherapy in colorectal cancer patients. 120 participants will receive either fish oil or corn oil (placebo) during their treatment. The goal is to see if fish oil reduces the number of patients who develop painful nerve symptoms.
What this could mean

What this could lead to
If it works, this could provide a simple, low-cost way to prevent painful nerve damage from oxaliplatin chemotherapy.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 120 participants. The benefit may be small or not work at all, and fish oil supplements can cause mild side effects like fishy aftertaste or stomach upset.
