New PET scan may solve brain tumor puzzle: regrowth or side effect?

NCT ID NCT07238322

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study looked at whether a special type of PET scan (using a tracer called FET) can accurately tell the difference between a returning brain tumor (glioma) and harmless changes caused by previous treatment. Researchers analyzed scans from 253 patients of all ages who had already been treated for glioma and showed suspicious signs on MRI. The goal was to see if FET-PET could help doctors make better decisions without needing a biopsy.
