First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether combining functional electrical stimulation (FES) with exercise can improve quadriceps muscle strength and reduce pain in people with knee osteoarthritis. Researchers will measure muscle strength, pain levels, and quality of life in 52 participants aged 50-65. The goal is to find a more effective, non-drug treatment option for this common condition.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
functional electrical stimulation (FES) device
What this could lead to
If successful, this could point toward a more effective, non-drug treatment to ease pain and improve mobility in knee osteoarthritis.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 52 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The intervention is short-term and may not provide lasting relief.
