New scanner could cut prostate surgery wait times by 20 minutes
NCT ID NCT07141121
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a new FDA-approved device called the Histolog Scanner, which takes high-resolution images of the prostate surface right after it is removed during surgery. The goal is to see if this faster method can save more than 20 minutes compared to the standard lab process. About 78 men with prostate cancer who are scheduled for robot-assisted surgery will take part. The scanner may help surgeons find cancer cells on the spot, but it is still being checked for accuracy and time savings.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Histolog Scanner (device)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could speed up cancer detection during prostate surgery, allowing surgeons to make faster decisions and potentially reduce the need for repeat surgeries.
What could go wrong
This is a small feasibility study (78 people) focused on time savings, not on long-term cancer outcomes. The device may not always agree with standard lab results, and its benefit in real-world surgery is still unproven.
