Can anesthesia choice protect eyes during robotic surgery?

NCT ID NCT04281017

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looks at how steep head-down position and two types of anesthesia (total IV vs. balanced) change eye pressure in women having robotic surgery for gynecologic cancer. Researchers will measure eye pressure in 40 participants to see which anesthesia method causes less pressure increase. The goal is to find safer anesthesia practices for these surgeries.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

propofol, fentanyl, rocuronium, lidocaine

What this could lead to

If successful, this could help doctors choose anesthesia to reduce eye pressure risks during robotic surgeries.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-phase study with only 40 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. It measures eye pressure changes, not long-term outcomes.
