New AR game aims to keep aging brains sharp

NCT ID NCT07530315

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests Exercogs®, a digital game that uses augmented reality to combine mental challenges, physical exercise, and social interaction. Researchers will enroll 150 adults aged 55 and older who have at least one risk factor for dementia. Participants will play the game three times a week for 24 weeks, and their cognitive function, physical performance, and social participation will be measured. The goal is to see if this fun, tech-based approach can help prevent cognitive decline.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Exercogs® (augmented reality exergame combining cognitive, physical, and social activities)
What this could lead to
If effective, Exercogs® could become a scalable, community-based program to help older adults at risk of dementia maintain their cognitive and physical health.
What could go wrong
This is a relatively small, early-stage trial (150 participants) testing a novel digital intervention. The control group also gets supervised exercise, so the added benefit of the AR component may be small. Results are not expected until 2026.
