Can walking keep cancer away? new study investigates
NCT ID NCT04589468
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study explores whether aerobic exercise, like walking, can lower levels of ctDNA (a marker of cancer in the blood) and help prevent breast, prostate, or colorectal cancer from coming back. Researchers will test different amounts of weekly exercise (90 to 375 minutes) in 33 people who have already been treated for cancer. The goal is to find the safest and most effective exercise dose to test further.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
aerobic exercise (walking)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a simple, drug-free way to reduce the risk of cancer coming back after initial treatment.
What could go wrong
This is a very early, small study (33 participants) testing different exercise doses. It may not show a clear benefit, and results may not apply to all cancer types or stages.
