Can walking during chemo reduce side effects? new study aims to find the best dose
NCT ID NCT05789485
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study is testing three different amounts of treadmill walking (90, 150, or 300 minutes per week) in people receiving chemotherapy for colorectal or stomach cancers. The goal is to find a safe and practical exercise level that helps patients complete their full chemotherapy plan with fewer side effects. The study will track how well participants tolerate treatment and whether exercise improves their overall health.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
structured treadmill walking
What this could lead to
If successful, this could establish a recommended amount of aerobic exercise to help patients tolerate chemotherapy better and reduce side effects.
What could go wrong
This is a Phase 2 trial with 216 participants, so results are preliminary. Exercise may not benefit everyone, and some patients may find the walking schedule difficult to maintain.
