New scan could spot hidden heart risk in kidney patients
NCT ID NCT07585695
First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looks at whether a special heart scan (CZT-SPECT) can better predict heart attacks, strokes, and heart failure in people with chronic kidney disease. Current tests often miss heart problems in these patients. The study will follow 283 participants for two years to see if the scan's results match up with who has heart events.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- CZT-SPECT imaging (a type of heart scan)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could lead to a better, non-invasive way to identify kidney patients at highest risk of heart problems, allowing earlier treatment.
- What could go wrong
- This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. The scan may not prove more useful than current methods, and results may not apply to all kidney patients.
