New Scope-Based ultrasound could spare patients liver biopsies
NCT ID NCT06592820
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is testing a new way to measure liver scarring using an endoscopic ultrasound with special software. About 300 adults with suspected liver disease will undergo this new scan, a standard liver biopsy, and another non-invasive test. The goal is to see if the new technique can accurately diagnose different stages of liver scarring, potentially offering a less invasive alternative to biopsy.

- Active substance
- Endoscopic Ultrasound Shear Wave Elastography (EUS-SWE) device
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could provide a more accurate, less invasive way to diagnose liver scarring, potentially reducing the need for liver biopsies.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early-stage study comparing a new technique to existing methods. It may not prove superior or may have limitations in certain patient groups.
