Can a heat probe through an endoscope treat pancreatic lesions?
NCT ID NCT07737171
First seen Jul 30, 2026 · Last updated Jul 31, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a procedure called endoscopic ultrasound-guided radiofrequency ablation (EUS-RFA) can safely treat pancreatic lesions. The approach uses a special endoscope to deliver heat energy directly to the lesion. Researchers will enroll 60 people with pre-malignant or malignant pancreatic lesions to assess technical success and short-term complications.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Endoscopic ultrasound-guided radiofrequency ablation (RFA) — a procedure that uses a special endoscope to deliver heat energy to pancreatic lesions
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this approach could offer a less invasive treatment option for pancreatic lesions, potentially reducing the need for surgery.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early registry study (60 participants) focused on safety and technical success, not yet proving long-term benefit. Risks include pancreatitis, bleeding, and other complications.
