First seen Apr 14, 2026 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This study tests three different doses of esketamine (a drug related to ketamine) to see if it can reduce confusion, memory problems, and other brain-related side effects in older adults after major non-cardiac surgery. About 120 patients aged 65 to 90 will receive esketamine during and after surgery, and researchers will monitor for side effects like dissociation and delirium. The goal is to find the safest and most effective dose to protect brain function without causing unwanted psychiatric symptoms.
