New drug may soothe cough during thyroid surgery recovery

Summary

This study tests if a medicine called esketamine can reduce coughing when the breathing tube is removed after thyroid surgery. About 136 adults having open thyroid surgery will take part. Researchers will compare how many people cough and how severe the cough is.
