New Air-Polishing technique could make gum disease maintenance less painful

NCT ID NCT07344805

First seen Jan 19, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 21 times

Summary

This study tested if using an air-polishing device with erythritol powder is as effective as standard scaling and root planing for maintaining gum health after initial treatment. Twenty adults with periodontitis were randomly assigned to one of two cleaning methods. Researchers measured gum pocket depth, bleeding, and patient discomfort, and also analyzed mouth bacteria. The goal was to see if the newer method reduces pain and treatment time while still controlling the disease.
