New device aims to catch debris during heart procedure, reduce stroke risk
NCT ID NCT07276711
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests a new device called EmStop that captures debris during a heart valve replacement procedure (TAVR) for aortic stenosis. About 663 people will be randomly assigned to receive either the EmStop device or a standard device. The goal is to see if EmStop reduces the risk of major heart and brain events, like stroke, within 30 days after the procedure.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
EmStop Embolic Protection System (device)
What this could lead to
If successful, this device could make TAVR safer by reducing the risk of stroke and kidney damage from debris.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage trial with 663 participants, and the device may not significantly reduce complications compared to existing options.
