Veterans' new battle: study tests peer support to keep homeless vets out of hospitals

Summary

This study is testing two different approaches to help homeless veterans with mental health or substance use problems get better healthcare. It will compare a basic support strategy against a more intensive one to see which works better at connecting veterans to services and reducing emergency room visits. The program uses trained peers to help veterans create personal health plans and access VA healthcare services.
