Feelings first: new study tests emotion training to fight teen obesity
NCT ID NCT06755827
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether a 4-week emotion regulation and self-monitoring program can help overweight and obese teens ages 11-14. Participants attend weekly telehealth groups and track their mood and health behaviors. Researchers will measure changes in brain activity, blood markers, and eating habits, comparing the program to standard educational handouts.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
emotion regulation and self-monitoring behavioral intervention
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a new, non-drug way to help teens manage weight by improving how they handle emotions and food cues.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early-phase study (30 teens) testing a behavioral approach, so results may not apply widely. The intervention is short (4 weeks) and relies on self-report, which can be unreliable.
