First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 31 times

Summary

This study tested if using mild electrical pulses on the diaphragm and abdominal muscles helps patients who have been on a breathing machine (ventilator) for a long time to breathe on their own again. 300 adults who had been on a ventilator for at least 21 days took part. The goal was to see if this stimulation could shorten the time needed to safely remove the ventilator.
