Summary

This study tested a new way to predict whether patients who need a breathing tube (ventilator) can safely have it removed. The method uses a special imaging technique called electrical impedance tomography (EIT) to measure how well the lungs fill with air during a breathing test. Researchers studied 150 adults with acute respiratory failure to see if this new measure could better predict who would need the breathing tube again within 48 hours, compared to standard tests.
