First seen Feb 27, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 10 times

Summary

This early-stage study tests a genetically-modified pig liver (EGEN-5784) used outside the body with a special device to temporarily support liver function in 20 adults with acute-on-chronic liver failure. Participants are not eligible for a transplant. The goal is to check safety and see if the pig liver can help reduce toxins and improve liver function during treatment.
