What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

e-cigarettes (nicotine vapes) and nicotine replacement therapy (patches and lozenges)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a practical way for people in addiction treatment to quit smoking, potentially improving their overall health.

What could go wrong

This is a relatively small, early-stage study (240 people) and results may not apply to everyone. E-cigarettes have their own health risks and may not help everyone quit.
