Double drug attack: new hope for tough Crohn's cases?

NCT ID NCT06520397

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether combining two drugs—upadacitinib and ustekinumab—works better than just increasing the dose of ustekinumab alone for people with Crohn's disease who didn't get enough help from standard treatment. About 214 adults with active Crohn's will be randomly assigned to one of the two treatment groups. The main goal is to see if the combo leads to more people achieving remission (healing of the gut lining) by week 16, while also checking for side effects.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

upadacitinib and ustekinumab

What this could lead to

If successful, this could offer a more effective treatment option for people with Crohn's disease who don't respond well to standard doses of ustekinumab alone.

What could go wrong

This is a Phase 4 trial, but it's still relatively small (214 participants) and early results may not apply to all patients. Combining two powerful drugs also raises the risk of side effects like infections.
