New CT scan could replace multiple heart tests after attack
NCT ID NCT02360150
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested whether a special CT scan can accurately assess heart muscle damage in people who had a heart attack more than 24 hours earlier. The goal was to see if this CT could replace the need for both an MRI and an invasive angiogram. The study enrolled 31 adults and compared the CT results to those from a cardiac MRI. The trial was terminated early, so the findings are limited.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
dual-energy cardiac CT scan
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that a single CT scan can replace multiple tests, making heart damage assessment faster and safer for patients.
What could go wrong
This was a small, early study that was terminated early, so results are limited. The CT scan also involves radiation, which carries a small long-term risk.
