Dry eye treatment may sharpen cataract surgery precision

NCT ID NCT07657858

First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study looks at whether dry eye disease affects the accuracy of corneal measurements needed for cataract surgery planning. 400 cataract patients will be divided into those with and without dry eye. Those with dry eye will use sodium hyaluronate eye drops for two weeks. Researchers will then compare measurements from three different devices to see if treatment improves consistency.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Sodium Hyaluronate Eye Drops
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that treating dry eye before cataract surgery leads to more accurate measurements for selecting the right lens implant.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage observational study, not a treatment trial. The eye drops are a short-term intervention, and results may not apply to all patients or devices.
