NCT ID NCT06473701
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether dronabinol, a synthetic form of THC (the psychoactive compound in cannabis), can reduce severe breathlessness in people with advanced COPD. Thirty participants will receive both dronabinol and a placebo in random order to compare effects. The goal is to see if the drug improves daily comfort and activity levels.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Dronabinol (synthetic THC)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a new option to ease severe breathlessness in advanced COPD patients who have few other treatments.
What could go wrong
This is a small early-phase trial with only 30 people, so results may not apply widely. Dronabinol can cause side effects like dizziness or confusion.
