Parkinson's patients may sharpen driving skills with simulator training

NCT ID NCT07463755

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This pilot study tests whether 10 sessions of low-fidelity driving simulator training can improve driving performance, confidence, and thinking skills in people with Parkinson's disease. 36 participants will be randomly assigned to either the simulator training or a waitlist group. Researchers will compare driving tests and cognitive scores before and after the training period.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

low-fidelity driving simulator training

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a non-drug therapy to help people with Parkinson's drive more safely and confidently.

What could go wrong

This is a very small pilot study (36 people) with no blinding. The training is on a basic simulator, so improvements may not carry over to real driving. Results are preliminary.
