New software could simplify brain stimulation tuning for Parkinson's patients

NCT ID NCT05103072

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tested whether a software tool (Guide XT) can replace the long, exhausting process of choosing the best stimulation settings for Parkinson's patients with brain implants. Twenty-six patients took part. The goal was to see if the software was at least as good as the standard method for improving movement symptoms.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

directional deep brain stimulation leads

What this could lead to

If successful, this could make programming brain implants faster and less tiring for Parkinson's patients.

What could go wrong

This is a small, completed study with only 26 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The software may not be better than the standard method.
