Stroke patients may get faster lifesaving care by skipping standard scans

NCT ID NCT07460713

First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether sending people with suspected severe stroke directly to the angiography suite (instead of first getting a CT or MRI) can speed up treatment and improve recovery. About 568 adults with stroke symptoms within 6 hours will be randomly assigned to the direct transfer or standard imaging route. The goal is to see if more patients achieve functional independence at 90 days.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
direct transfer to angiography suite (procedure)
What this could lead to
If successful, this approach could reduce treatment delays and improve recovery for people with severe stroke caused by a large blocked artery.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage trial with 568 participants, so results may not apply to all stroke patients. The procedure carries risks like bleeding or complications from angiography.
