Mediterranean diet study hopes to unlock prostate cancer clues
NCT ID NCT05590624
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study is testing how two types of Mediterranean diets (lower-carb or low-fat) affect metabolism in men with early prostate cancer who are not yet receiving treatment. Researchers will measure changes in prostate tissue and blood. The goal is to understand if diet can influence cancer-related metabolism, not to treat or cure the disease.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Mediterranean-type diet (lower-carbohydrate or low-fat)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could point toward dietary recommendations that may help manage prostate cancer metabolism.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early exploratory study (30 men) looking at metabolic changes, not clinical outcomes like cancer progression. Results may not lead to clear dietary advice.
