First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a smartphone-based program called RISE Guide for women who have just been sexually assaulted. The goal is to see if it can reduce anxiety sensitivity and prevent posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and cannabis use disorder (CUD). 68 women who seek emergency care within 72 hours of an assault and use cannabis at least once a week will use the app for 9 weeks. Researchers will measure changes in anxiety and cannabis-related problems.

What this could lead to
If it works, this could provide a practical, scalable way to prevent PTSD and cannabis use disorder in women after sexual assault.
What could go wrong
This is an early Phase 1/2 trial with only 68 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The intervention is new and may not be effective for all.
