Can a phone app help schizophrenia patients stay on track?
NCT ID NCT04602741
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested a smartphone app called A4i designed to help people with schizophrenia manage their illness and stay connected with their care providers. 91 adults with schizophrenia or related disorders used the app for 6 months. The goal was to see if the app was practical and safe to use, not to measure health improvements.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
A4i smartphone app (behavioral intervention)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could point toward a low-cost digital tool to support schizophrenia self-management and improve communication with healthcare providers.
What could go wrong
This was a small feasibility study (91 participants) testing only whether the app is usable and safe, not whether it improves health outcomes. Results may not apply broadly.
