Tooth pain relief: steroid injection may beat placebo after root canal

NCT ID NCT07233564

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether a single injection of dexamethasone (a steroid) near the tooth can reduce pain after root canal treatment for people with severe, irreversible tooth inflammation. 44 adults with this condition will receive either the steroid or a placebo (salt water) injection. Pain levels are checked at 6, 24, and 48 hours after the procedure. The goal is to see if this simple injection provides better pain relief than placebo.
