First seen Jun 29, 2026 · Last updated Jun 30, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This trial tests whether a single dose of the anti-inflammatory drug dexamethasone, given during jaw surgery, can lessen pain, swelling, and trouble opening the mouth afterward. About 60 people having wisdom tooth removal or cyst surgery under general anesthesia will take part. The drug is given by IV during the operation, and researchers will check how well it controls common post-surgery problems.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

dexamethasone

What this could lead to

If it works, this could give surgeons a simple, low-cost way to ease recovery after jaw surgery.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-phase trial with only 60 people, so results may not apply to everyone. Dexamethasone can have side effects like increased blood sugar or infection risk.
