Summary
This study tested whether adding a medication called dexmedetomidine to standard pain control could reduce the risk of delirium (sudden, severe confusion) in elderly patients after cancer surgery. Researchers enrolled 1,500 patients aged 65 and older who were having major cancer surgery. They compared the standard pain management approach to one that included this additional medication, which is thought to improve sleep and reduce inflammation.
