New drug combo targets brain tumor growth

NCT ID NCT05798507

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This early trial tests two oral drugs, defactinib and VS-6766, in 14 people with glioblastoma. The goal is to see how much drug reaches the brain tumor and check for side effects. Both drugs block different growth pathways that help glioblastoma cells grow. This study only looks at safety and drug levels, not whether the drugs shrink tumors.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Defactinib and avutometinib (VS-6766)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could point toward a new treatment approach for glioblastoma by targeting growth pathways in tumor cells.

What could go wrong

This is a very early, small study (14 people) focused on safety and drug levels, not effectiveness. The drugs may not reach enough of the tumor or may cause side effects.
