Can a blood test predict who benefits from brain surgery for Parkinson's?

NCT ID NCT07376278

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study is looking for clues in the blood that might tell doctors ahead of time whether deep brain stimulation (DBS) surgery will work well for a person with Parkinson's disease. Researchers will collect blood and leftover brain tissue from 30 people who are already scheduled for DBS. They will measure proteins and RNA in the blood and compare them to standard Parkinson's rating scales to see if any markers predict good or poor outcomes.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could help doctors predict which Parkinson's patients will benefit most from deep brain stimulation surgery.

What could go wrong

This is a small observational study, not a treatment trial. It may not find reliable predictors, and results may not apply to all patients.
