New drug combo aims to shrink aggressive prostate cancer before surgery
NCT ID NCT07476677
First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests a drug called darolutamide, with or without hormone therapy (ADT), given before surgery for high-risk localized prostate cancer. Sixty men will be split into two groups: one gets darolutamide alone, the other gets darolutamide plus ADT for 3-6 months before robotic surgery. The goal is to see if the treatment reduces cancer enough to improve surgical outcomes.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Darolutamide (a drug that blocks male hormones) with or without ADT (androgen deprivation therapy)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could lead to a new treatment option that shrinks high-risk prostate cancer before surgery, potentially improving outcomes.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-phase study (60 people) with no results yet. The treatment may not work better than current options, and ADT can cause side effects like hot flashes and fatigue.
