New simple workout could help control diabetes
NCT ID NCT07664501
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a new, simpler weight training program called D-STORM for adults with type 2 diabetes. The program uses easier exercises to build muscle and improve blood sugar control. Over 12 weeks, 56 participants will either do the training plus usual care or just usual care. The main goal is to see if the training lowers HbA1c, a key blood sugar measure.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
D-STORM Resistance Training Programme (a simplified, twice-weekly weight training routine)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a safe, manageable exercise option for people with type 2 diabetes to improve blood sugar control and muscle strength.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 56 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The program requires commitment to twice-weekly sessions for 12 weeks, and some people may find it difficult to stick with.
