Can a simple blood test replace scans for pancreatic cancer patients?

NCT ID NCT07122466

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study looks at whether a blood test that measures tumor DNA (ctDNA) can predict how well chemotherapy is working in people with advanced pancreatic cancer. Researchers will compare the blood test results with CT scans taken before and two months after starting treatment. The goal is to see if the blood test is a reliable alternative to imaging, which could make monitoring easier for patients.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could lead to a simpler blood test to monitor treatment response in pancreatic cancer, reducing the need for frequent CT scans.

What could go wrong

This is a very small pilot study with only 24 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. It's observational, meaning it won't directly improve treatment.
